Sports trivia with a twist

In most sports quizzes the right answer is enough. Here, the rare one wins. Name a sport played with a racquet and tennis gets you on the board; real tennis, its centuries-old ancestor, scores six times as much. The same goes for teams, champions and Olympic events: the long tail is where the points are.

This mode deals you dives made only from sports prompts that appeared in past daily puzzles: Summer and Winter Olympic events, NBA, NFL, MLB and Premier League teams, Grand Slam and Formula 1 champions, positions, fouls and more. Seven prompts, 25 seconds each, no daily limit.

Tips for sports prompts

  • Defunct teams and relocated franchises often count for "current or former" prompts, and few players think of them.
  • The Olympics have a long history of strange events, from tug of war to motorboating. Historic sports are often valid and rare.
  • Champions from before the TV era score well. An early Wimbledon or Formula 1 winner beats this decade's star.
  • Check which sports a prompt covers. When it lists specific leagues or excludes esports and board games, answers outside that scope won't count.
